Paul the Octopus and His Soccer Prediction • 11.18.11
Paul the octopus was an octopus from Weymouth, England. He lived in a tank at a commercial attraction in the Sea Life Center in Oberhausen. He lived from 26 January 2008 until 26 October 2010. Paul the Octopus becomes famous after he predicts the Germany as a winner from several matches in 2010 FIFA World Cup. He predicts a soccer match by chose a food in the box that containing a flag of national football team in a forthcoming mach. His choice was indicating his prediction for a winner of that game. From six
matches in Euro 2008, he can chose four accurate winner and two others are wrong. In 2010 World Cup he can also choose correctly eight matches and his soccer prediction makes him famous again.
Some people who does not like his soccer prediction was going mad and posting in some social media, like Chef Nicolas Bedorrou from Argentina. He is angry because his national team, Argentine will lose the game. And he posted in his Facebook an octopus recipe. But Oliver Walenciak, Paul’s keeper said: ‘there are always people who want to eat our octopus but he is not shy and we are here to protect Paul and his soccer prediction as well. Paul will survive and give his soccer prediction again’.
But unfortunately Paul the Octopus was died on 26 October 2010. He died in his aquarium in Germany, different from other octopus that can lived more than two years. People predict he will died after UEFA Euro 2012 and give his soccer prediction again. The Oberhausen Sea Life Center give him a small burial plot in the grounds to remain us about Paul the Octopus and his prediction. ‘It’s a sad day, Paul was special’ said Chris Davis, the agent of Paul the Octopus.
